Acta Vulcanologica Special Issue:
Thermal waters in recent and active volcanic systems.

Acta Vulcanologica is pleased to announce a Special Issue titled:

Thermal waters in recent and active volcanic systems.

In the last decades the global demand of alternative energy resources has strongly grown mainly in response to i) the increase of the oil price, and ii) the impact of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, related to the use of traditional combustibles. This has stimulated the development of new research projects aimed to the exploration of exploitable geothermal resources. Recent and active volcanoes can be regarded as the most suitable geological sites to host heat sources at shallow depth. Thermal waters are almost ubiquitous in this context. They represent both low enthalpy energy resources for direct uses often the sites for wellness, fitness and therapeutic centers. Nevertheless, they do also provide interesting insights to understand fluid circulation at shallow and deep level, to both assess the status and forecast significant modification of a volcanic system, particularly when crater fumaroles are either absent or not collectable.

Authors dealing with water geochemistry, hydrogeology, volcanic surveillance, continuous and discontinuous monitoring and so forth are encouraged to submit their papers according to the following deadlines:

-    February 28, 2010: titles and authors of the potential papers to:

     Bruno Capaccioni ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it )

     Orlando Vaselli ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it )

-    May 31, 2010: submission of the manuscripts (pdf or doc) to one of the Editors;

-    July 15, 2010: returning of the revised manuscripts to the Authors;

-    September 15, 2010: submission of the final version of the manuscripts;

-    December 15, 2010: publication of the Special Issue.
